Meet the Eyewear Designer | Charlotte – The Creative Behind The Recycled Readers Co.
Charlotte, Designer – Optical, Readers & The Recycled Readers/Sunglasses Co

What does your role as the designer for The Recycled Readers Co involve?
As a designer, it’s my role to take an idea from initial concept through to the finished product. This process includes researching fashion trends, colours, styles and shapes, while also understanding customer habits and how we can best support their needs and tastes. We work closely with our factories throughout the development process to review and refine samples, ensuring we achieve a great fit and high-quality product finishes.
What sets The Recycled Readers Co apart from others on the market?
The Recycled Readers Co is all about stylish eyewear that uses fun, vibrant colours, with sustainability at it’s core. Our reading glasses and sunglasses are made from 100% recycled materials; from the frames and lenses to the felt pouch and box that each pair of glasses is packaged in. We’re committed to making the most of existing resources while designing eyewear people genuinely want to wear.
How do you make reading glasses feel stylish and comfortable?
All RRco and RSco frames have flexible spring hinges which allow for a customised and comfortable fit. As for making the collection feel stylish, we pay close attention to current trends, popular colours and with our wealth of knowledge and experience behind us, design shapes that work for different face shapes. We want to create accessories that people choose to wear and feel good wearing, rather than simply something they need.
What’s your favourite frame in the current range?
It’s difficult to select just one favourite, so I’ll give you my top three!
I really like the Sloane in Tortoiseshell. The tortoiseshell offers something classic, whilst the oversized D-frame is a shape that’s very trendy, offering that statement accessory. The larger lens size also offers more coverage, making it a comfortable style for many.
My second favourite would have to be the Oxford in Navy. A traditional rectangular frame with the added tortoiseshell temples. This style offers an easy, everyday rectangular shape and matte finish, while the tortoiseshell printed temples add a fun detail to the look. This also happens to be one of our bestsellers!
Lastly, Fleet in Royal Blue is a striking, fun style that combines a classic preppy shape with a vibrant colour.
